Typical poker games award the pot to the hand with the highest rank. For instance, a hand of kings or queens can win the pot, but a hand of four of a kind cannot. Similarly, a hand of a suited connector, such as a diamond or a suited spade, can’t win. Unlike other games that rely on hand rankings, such as blackjack, poker is a game of skill, and bluffing is a key element.
Typically, poker players will place cash into the pot. But, unlike other games, they can place money into the pot voluntarily. Moreover, they can only do so if they are trying to bluff other players. Occasionally, players will be required to make forced bets. These are typically ante bets or blind bets.
